Low Cost Spay/Neuter Options for Maine Residents Print E-mail

dogBelow is a list of low cost spay/neuter resources for Maine. 

Most of these programs are non-profit and rely on donations to survive. 

Please consider supporting one of these programs financially as they save so many lives and keep animals out of our shelters and from being euthanized.

Franklin County area, Somerset Humane Society and other areas.
Maine Woods Mobile Vet 491-5501. Low-income low cost spay/neuter clinics for cats and male dogs.  Will do feral cat colonies and pediatric spay/neuter (8 weeks old).  Individuals call for locations of clinics. Shelters and rescues call to schedule clinics.  Will do clinics in the northern counties.
 
Freeport area
Community Spay-Neuter Clinic.  865-0772 
This a nonprofit low cost clinic in Freeport on Route One right off Route 295.  They spay and neuter both cats (ferals included) and dogs at very affordable prices.  No income or breed restrictions - all are welcome. Female dogs need to be under 75 lbs (some exceptions).

Fryeburg/Bridgton areas: 
Harvest Hills Animal Shelter  935-4358.  Low-income only, cats only.  Low cost or donation amount, please call for details.  One spay/neuter clinic per month.  This clinic is booked way in advance so please call before your cat goes in heat or starts spraying!

Hancock and Washington counties only: 
The Ark in Cherryfield "A Stitch in Time" program.  Low-income spay/neuter assistance only.  Telephone:  546-3484

Ft. Kent area: 
PAWS call 834-3458,  call between 8 AM and 8 PM, this is a volunteer! Cats only.  You must be from one of these towns: Ft. Kent, Frenchville, Madawaska, Eagle Lake, Wallagrass, St. John, St. Agatha, St. Francis, Soldier Pond, New Canada, Cross Lake, Allagash

Dover Foxcroft/Milo/Exeter area: 
P.E.T.S. low cost spay/neuter assistance for both cat and dogs:  call  564-8092 or 564-8072.  These are volunteers so please don't call too early or too late! Southern Maine area : Animal Welfare Society February spay/neuter event for cats.  This is a low income program just for the months of February and part of March 2011 in collaboration with southern Maine area veterinarians.  Call 985-3244 Ext. 120 and leave a message.
$25 to neuter a male cat
$40 to spay a female cat
rabies vaccines are included

Portland area:
Animal Refuge League 854-9771
A voucher program for cats and pit bulls. There are income requirements and you must live in one of these towns: Buxton, Cape Elizabeth, Chebeague Island, Gorham, Gray, Long Island, Portland, Pownal, Raymond, Scarborough, So. Portland, Standish, Westbrook or Windham.

Lewiston-Auburn area:
Greater Androscoggin Humane Society spay/neuter clinic for cats.  There is also some spay/neuter assistance for dogs. 783-2311  This is a low income program.  You must be from one of the following towns to qualify: 
Auburn, Bucksfield, Canton, Durham, Greene, Hartford, Leeds, Lewiston, Lisbon, Livermore, Livermore Falls, Mechanic Falls, Minot, New Gloucester, Poland, Sabattus,Turner, Wales
 
Bridgton area:
Nan Beury, D.V.M.  Bridgton  583-2121   cats and dogs

Norway area:  
Don McLean, D.V.M.  890-4987 (call this number first) or 743-8346 or 890-7284
Female cat $50, Male cat $25

Rockland area:
Margo Maloney, DVM  Owls Head, Rockland, Rockport, Thomaston and Warren area.  557-5669, leave a message, cats only

Low cost spay/neuter certificate program.  Certificates are honored at participating veterinarians throughout the united states.  You can search for a particpating veterinary clinic by zip code on the FoA website.
