Election is November 7th!
Maine Friends of Animals seeks to elect animal-friendly state legislators. As MFOA motto “Love animals? Hate politics? Where does that leave the animals?” implies, animal protection activists must engage the political process if we want to change the lives of animals. This means anything you can do to elect an animal-friendly State Representative or Senate candidate in your district will increase our chance at advancing and passing animal protection legislation.
MFOA sent out a legislative questionnaire and made its endorsements
based on those questionnaires. By clicking on the “MFOA legislative
endorsements” at the end of this ‘Action Alert’ you will be able to see
if any of the MFOA endorsed candidates are in your district. If they
are we cannot stress the importance to assist these candidates in
anyway you can. It could be putting up road signs, writing a letter to
the editor in your local newspaper, attending public events to pass out
your candidate’s literature, making calls to get out supporters on
Election Day, or just passing the word in the community about the
candidate. Contact the candidate directly and see how he or she feels
you can best help their (re)-election. Do not hesitate – they will be
very appreciative that you have called and offered to help.
If your legislative candidates are not on our endorsement list that
does NOT mean he or she is not an animal-friendly candidate. MFOA makes
its endorsements based on the questionnaire. We know that there are
incumbents and challengers who are animal-friendly, but did not return
the questionnaire. Please take the time to find out where your State
Representative and State Senate candidates stand on the issues. MFOA’s
candidate questionnaire is listed below. If they are animal-friendly
then please take the time to help them get elected. We cannot pass
animal-friendly legislation without animal-friendly legislators.
Remember we support all candidates who look favorably on issues
affecting animals whether they are a Democrat, Republican, Green
Independent or Independent. See MFOA’s previous endorsement of Green Independent candidate for Governor, Pat LaMarche.
If you have a legislative candidate in your district please call them today to ask how you can help. View a list of MFOA Legislative Endorsements.
