Dear Fellow Animal Advocates,
Since its founding eight years ago Maine Friends of Animals (MFOA) has
seen an exciting growth in animal protection activism in Maine. Today
MFOA has grown to become Maine’s leading voice for animals in the
legislature, in the media and amongst Maine animal activists. We have
lead five animal protection campaigns: increasing the penalties for
animal cruelty, ending coyote snaring, revamping the state’s Animal
Welfare Program, banning circus elephants from the state and the bear
referendum. We have had some remarkable wins and some disappointing
losses, but with each campaign the public becomes that more aware of
our issues. Our activism and successes improve the lives of thousands
of Maine’s companion, farm and wild animals. We have operated
successfully with basic fundraising and memberships, but we have
reached a point that we need to focus more on funding that can augment
MFOA’s potential to do more for Maine’s animals.
For over five years MFOA worked to get bear hunting before the
legislature and the public, and although we narrowly lost the
referendum, our strong campaign was very beneficial in the significant
increase in public awareness of animal cruelty, unethical hunting and
how we manage our wildlife. MFOA is now poised to grow as an
organization with that momentum. Our structure is in place with an
expanded board of directors, district coordinators, volunteers and over
1,000 supporters throughout the state. We have a plan in which to
expand our activities and become an even more effective advocate for
animals. The only question in this potential growth is the increased
funding to implement it.
If you ever considered making a donation to help advance the humane
treatment of animals this is the time to do it. Animal protection in
Maine has never had a higher profile and MFOA has never been stronger.
It is exciting to think that with the proper funding we can move into
more ways to end animal abuse, exploitation and cruelty.
We can be the most organized, hardworking and well-meaning
organization, but without the accompanying financial resources, our
efforts to improve the plight of Maine’s animals will be limited.
Please donate whatever you can. Every dollar you send will go directly
to helping animals.
With your support one less dog will be abused, one less coyote will be
needlessly strangled to death, one less horse will be left in horrific
conditions, one less bear will die an agonizing death in a leghold
trap, one less endangered species will be lost and one less cat will be
euthanized. MFOA has done much in eight years, but we still have
much more to do. Won’t you make a donation to help end needless animal
suffering and in the process become a member and support Maine’s
leading organization for the advancement of animal protection?
