video_cover.jpgWe encourage you to view the two websites below. Maine PBS has not picked up "Emotional World of Farm Animals" yet, but will call MFOA if and when they do. They did say it is good to know from those who would like to see the program aired here in Maine (1-800-884-1717 – ask for 'audience services'). The VHS and DVD are available online. The second program "Holy Cow" is on 'Nature' and is part of there regular programming so that will be seen here in Maine.

top_pic3.jpg The documentary, "The Emotional World of Farm Animals," narrated by author Jeffrey Masson, is being aired on PBS stations throughout the US and will appear in the Los Angeles market on Thursday, June 2. PBS is also airing a program called "Holy Cow" that includes in-depth coverage of the breeding and captivity of cows as well as the close relationship between humans and cows in certain parts of the world.

Animal Place: The Emotional World of Farm Animals

The Emotional World of Farm Animals is a delightful documentary for viewers of all ages about the thinking and feeling side of animals that are all too often just viewed as food.

Jefferey Masson, author of "When Elephants Weep and Dogs Never Lie About Love", leads viewers through the personal journey he underwent while writing his latest book, The Pig Who Sang to The Moon. This journey into the sentient, emotional lives of farm animals brings Masson to animal sanctuaries around the country where caregivers and the animals themselves tell their harrowing stories of rescue and escape. Masson delves into the rich ancestry of these curious and intelligent animals and interviews top experts in animal behavior who offer scientific perspectives on these amazing creatures.

"Holy Cow"

Discover how cows have altered human life, human biology, and the geography of the world.

Today there are about 1.5 billion cows in the world. In many differentcountries humans and cows have formed close relationships. In England, dairyfarmer Mark Evans spends all of his waking time with his cows, milking, feeding, and otherwise nurturing them. The African Masai tribe believes thatall cattle were given to them from the great god N'gai at the beginning oftime -- a belief which today remains at the heart of their culture. India ishome to a quarter of the world's cow population. One major reason for thisis that India's majority Hindu community reveres cows and considers them tobe "second mothers."
