‘Dogs Are People Too’ award winning documentary showing sponsored by MFOA

This Spring Maine Friends of Animals had the opportunity to organize and sponsor the viewing of an excellent documentary entitled ‘Dogs Are People Too’, which gives us as a society pause in legally considering our relationship with our dogs. UK film producers Tom Miller and Hendrix Faller have asked Maine Friends of Animals to host an exclusive New England showing of the film.

We are proud to have had this groundbreaking type of documentary here in Maine. Maine Friends of Animals planned an entertaining evening to enjoy a thought-provoking documentary, and have drinks, appetizers and an opportunity for good conversations with the film producers and others related to providing our canine friends the protection they deserve. We need to move away from dogs legally being just ‘property’, like a dining room set, especially when 90% of owners consider their pet dog “family”.

Investigating the unlawful killing of a dog, the film explores the four legged civil rights movement that is gaining attention nationally. The ‘mother’ of the deceased dog is going to the end of the earth to bring those who killed her ‘boy’ to justice. On her journey, she steps into a world of dog-lawyers and canine rights that is bubbling under the surface of America. Her trial spotlights the conflict.
