MFOA new cruelty department launched!

MFOA’s new Cruelty Inquiry Department (C.I.D.) continues to gather support!

MFOA is very excited about the recent formation of a new program to take on animal cruelty more directly: the Cruelty Inquiry Department (C.I.D.).

The program brings together four components of MFOA involvement in battling animal cruelty over the years.

MFOA’s 25-year ‘Dogs Chained for Life’ (DCFL) program has saved countless animals through resolution, removal or relinquishment of dogs in peril, which includes public service announcements (PSAs).

• It provides investigative guidance and assistance to Mainers in reporting cruelty by interacting and assisting them with animal welfare laws, reporting procedures, local authorities, state agencies, animal control officers, the Animal Welfare Program, district prosecutors, animal shelters, state humane agents, legislators, and others in securing justice for animals treated inhumanely.

• The ‘Animal Cruelty Helpline’ and email provides assistance for those in need of a more immediate response. Both will be used in tracking and being proactive to trending issues.

MFOA brings almost 30 years of experience with companion animal legislation, including passing over a dozen legislative bills that have improved the lives of Maine pets, particularly dogs.

Thus, with legislation, an established rescue (DCFL) program, an organized investigative unit and a cruelty helpline, the Cruelty Inquiry Department was created to more effectively help in multiple aspects of cruelty reporting, investigating and prosecuting.

BE A CRUELTY INQUIRY DEPARTMENT (C.I.D.) SPONSOR!

Support for the program continues to grow as does the program itself. Like any other worthwhile program, it requires appropriate funding to function best; and the more funding, the more that can be done. Your C.I.D. Sponsor donation will go directly into this effort to increase the reporting, investigating and prosecuting of animal cruelty in Maine. You will have an immediate effect in MFOA’s capacity to enhance the state’s abilities to deal with animal cruelty.  Please consider becoming a MFOA Cruelty Inquiry Department Sponsor today.

Being noted as a Cruelty Inquiry Department (C.I.D.) Sponsor means you will be a part of the specific program in supporting victims of animal cruelty, while helping to facilitate the prosecution of the abusers to the fullest extent of the law.

Animal Control Officers, the state Animal Welfare Program and the court system are undermanned, underappreciated and under-funded. Their needs remain greater than their resources. The C.I.D. program will provide collaborative assistance from ‘boots on the ground’ to legislation in working together to help shine light into the darkest corners of abuse for our animal friends who depend on us.

Any contribution will show you believe in C.I.D. and wish to contribute to its success. Please consider becoming a MFOA C.I.D. sponsor ($100 or more)! You will be listed in our annual newsletter as a C.I.D. Sponsor and will receive a C.I.D. T-shirt to let others know you want to end animal cruelty in Maine.

Thank you for all that you do in helping MFOA make Maine a more humane state.
