June 8th Primary
Written by Robert Fisk
Sunday, 30 May 2010

I am sure many of you have not had the time to get deeply engaged in the upcoming primary (June 8th) for Governor. But I would like to pass along the following for your consideration.

I have known or recently met most the 7 Republican candidates and 4 Democratic candidates for Governor and to some degree followed their positions on issues, particularly as they might involve or affect animals. MFOA was a two day exhibitor (tabler) at both the Republican Convention in Portland and the Democratic Convention in Lewiston this past month. They are great opportunities to have a presence and for face to face time with the who's who of Maine politics.

This is not an MFOA endorsement, but simply my observation in who I believe are the two most animal-friendly candidates in both races:  Peter Mills for the Republicans and Steven Rowe for the Democrats. What makes this doubly appealing is they both are arguably the best candidates as well. I served with both in the state legislature and know first hand that they are very capable and respected on both sides of the aisle.

Politics may not be high on your radar screen just yet, but having an animal-friendly Governor in Augusta is worth the effort to vote and get others to do so also. If you are a registered Democrat I hope you will consider voting for Steven Rowe and if you are a registered Republican I urge you to vote for Peter Mills on or before June 8th. Please get others to do the same. Primaries are notorious for low turn-outs so every vote really counts. If you are registered as Unaffiliated voter you can register as a Republican or Democrat now or even on Election Day (June 8th) and vote, and shortly after return to being an 'Unaffiliated' (independent) registered voter if you choose to.

"Love animals. Hate politics. Where does that leave the animals."

Thank you for what you do for Maine's companion, farm and wild animals,

Robert Fisk, Jr.
